Why are you in danger while you are online? You are in danger, because you are more connected to the world on the internet than you will ever be outside of the time you use your computer. There are billions of people online every day, and just like the nice people you see on the street - businessmen, McDonald’s employees, farmers, and runners - you will see heinous people – drug dealers, pickpockets, and thieves – amongst them. Basically, the internet is filled with many different people. Some will help you, some will ignore you, and some will try to take everything they can from you.
No matter how secure you think you are behind your keyboard and monitor, there are always people trying to scam you, phish your information, and use your identification for their own good. Phisers are one type of people that can be extremely dangerous. By using internet tricks, and scamming you into entering personal information, they can gain access to your personal passwords to websites for your banks or credit cards. They do this by directing you to a website that looks like a real website, but it is just copied from the original. If you enter your username, password or any other personal information, they instantly have access to any of that.
Even just typing your name into search engines like Google can put your personal identity online. Your computer has an IP address, and if you don’t know how to change that Internet Proxy address, it will always be assigned to your computer. Those clever enough to track these IP addresses can see where you have been, what websites you’ve gone to and on some of those websites, your personal information.
Some of the most dangerous info left online is the information users put on it themselves. Social networking sites are full of people that aren’t there for the right reasons, and they can track who you are just by using the information on your networking pages.
If you are worried about personal information leaking onto the internet, you should be researching what you can do to better prevent your information from being stolen and how you can protect yourself.
